Nollywood actress, Dayo Amusa, has denied allegations made in a viral video that listed her among Nigerian celebrities allegedly living with HIV.
Naija News reports that the actress reacted after a content creator, Olaoluwa Segun, released a video online naming five actors he falsely claimed were HIV positive.
Among them were Amusa and Hanks Anuku.
Amusa, in a video on Instagram, said she was shocked to see her name included in the video, stressing that she is HIV negative.
She recalled that she once posted about HIV awareness in 2019 to educate people on the need to know their status and seek help when necessary.
However, she explained that the post was misused by Segun, who picked it up years later and twisted it without checking the facts.
She questioned the reasoning behind spreading such a damaging story without evidence while demanding that Segun provide proof of the hospital or laboratory allegedly confirming her status.
“I’m not going to let this slide. I’m to make you a scapegoat.
“Not because I find pleasure in doing it, but because that will teach you a lesson and some other stupid content creator and blogger that if you have to make a headline, verify, as questions before putting people on the spot”, she said.
In response, Segun issued an apology, admitting that the video was false.
He explained that although Amusa had once discussed HIV on television, she never said she was positive.
He accepted full responsibility for the error, confirmed that the video had been taken down, and promised to improve his content process to avoid such issues in the future.
