The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Monday, July 14, swore in a new batch of commissioners to join his executive council.
Naija News reports that the swearing-in ceremony was held at the International Centre for Culture and Events (The Dome) in Akure, and attended by top government officials, party leaders, traditional rulers and supporters.
Among those sworn in were notable names including Idowu Ajanaku, Adewale Akinlosotu, Igbekele Ajibefun (former Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko), Ayorinde Abiola Olawoye, Ayodele Akande, Alabi Johnson and Amidu Takuro.
Others include Oluwaseun Abosede Osamaye, Tob Loko, Olaolu Akindolire, Sunday Olajide, Omoyofunmi Segun Henry, Adesoji Afolabi, Banji Awolowo Ajaka, Leye Akinola and Bode Ademuwagun.
Governor Aiyedatiwa congratulated the new cabinet members, stating they were carefully selected based on their “unassailable qualifications, impeccable track records, and unwavering dedication to public service.”
‘No Project Will Be Abandoned’ – Aiyedatiwa
In his address, Aiyedatiwa assured the people of Ondo that his administration would not abandon any ongoing project initiated by past governments.
Instead, he promised to build on existing foundations while initiating new people-oriented programmes.
“Let me restate that our administration will not abandon any project but rather build upon them, while regularly introducing new initiatives that will benefit our people,” he said.
He also referenced the activities held to mark his first 100 days in office, stating: “You would recall that in celebrating our 100 days recently, we commissioned and flagged off several life-changing projects across the length and breadth of our dear State.”
Addressing concerns about the staggered composition of the executive council, Aiyedatiwa noted that governance is not a sprint but a marathon.
“I must acknowledge the reservations of individuals who felt that the state executive council should have come on stream in one fell swoop,” the Governor said.
“However, within the first 100 days of our administration, we have been able to prove that slow and steady wins the race. Governance is not just about speed; it is about goal attainment with consistent and sustained effort,” he added.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to sustainable development, Aiyedatiwa emphasised that the administration would be guided by a seven-point policy thrust codenamed OUR EASE.
According to him, the agenda targets economic expansion, food security, education, quality healthcare, infrastructure renewal, enhanced security, youth empowerment, and improved social welfare.
“We are in a hurry to implement policies and programmes that will ensure all-round development for our Sunshine State,” he declared.
Governor Aiyedatiwa charged the newly appointed commissioners to immediately get to work and justify the confidence reposed in them.
“You must discharge the duties and responsibilities of your office with integrity and patriotism, bearing in mind always, the collective interest of the people,” he said.
He urged them to maintain a cordial relationship with civil servants and uphold due process.
“As appointees of government, you must also foster a cordial working relationship with the bureaucracy in your various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). You must respect due process and work together with your Accounting Officers and other top government functionaries,” the governor warned.
Reaching out to loyalists and party faithful yet to be appointed, the governor gave assurance that the administration would continue to be inclusive.
“There is room enough for everyone. Governance offers limitless opportunities for people who are ready to contribute to the state’s development,” Governor Aiyedatiwa concluded, reiterating his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and excellence in governance, while expressing confidence in the ability of the newly sworn-in officials to deliver on the state’s development goals.
