Expulsion: ‘Decisions On Peter Obi, Alex Otti’s Fate Will Be Taken At Next NEC Meeting’ – Labour Party

How Can You Defeat Tinubu With A Divided House? - Bode George Questions Peter Obi's Alliance With ADC

The Deputy National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Ayo Olorunfemi, has affirmed that important decisions, such as the expulsion of erring LP chieftains, including the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, will be taken at its next National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

Naija News reports that the latest development comes a few days after LP factional National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, announced that Peter Obi would soon be expelled for working against the party’s interests.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, Arabambi stated that Obi, who had recently declared support for the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC), was aware that it is unconstitutional for him to belong to two political parties.

Despite Peter Obi’s involvement in the activities that led to the launch of the ADC, the former Anambra State governor insisted that he was still a member of the Labour Party.

However, in an interview with Punch, Olorunfemi confirmed that the decision regarding the fate of erring members and chieftains of the party indicted for anti-party activities will be taken at the next NEC meeting, but no date has been set for it.

He said, “I think we are due for another National Executive Council meeting, especially in the face of recent developments. We need to obtain the mandate from the owners of the party. I am talking about the NEC, which is the second-highest decision-making organ of the party.

“However, I cannot tell you when it is going to happen. No date has been fixed because we are still consulting. But definitely, we will have our NEC meeting where decisions relating to the activities of Peter Obi and Governor Alex Otti will be taken.”
