The Secretary of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) Board of Trustees, Buba Galadima, has stated that the party will not be joining the opposition coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Naija News reports that Galadinma made this known in an interview with the BBC Hausa.
According to him, the prominent opposition coalition figures have not approached the NNPP, and they cannot abandon their political structure for an alliance whose direction and outcome remain uncertain.
He said, “They did not approach us to join our party, yet they expect us to leave ours and join theirs on what grounds?”
He further challenged politicians across Nigeria to establish their own parties and test whether they could achieve the kind of political influence wielded by his leader, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.
While acknowledging that forming a coalition could potentially strengthen the opposition, Galadima maintained that such an alliance faces significant challenges ahead.
Meanwhile, Buba Galadima has warned Nigerians against the push to establish state police in the country.
Naija News reports that the elder statesman, during an interview with ARISE NEWS on Friday, described the idea of state police as dangerous and potentially destructive to democracy.
Galadima asserted that the states in Nigeria are not mature enough to handle decentralised policing and that governors would inevitably turn state police into a political weapon to arrest, harass, and jail their opponents.
He argued that in states where even local government elections are already manipulated by governors, adding a security apparatus to their arsenal would embolden abuse and erode citizens’ rights.
