No fewer than 15 persons have been killed by gunmen suspected to be bandits in Kwallajiya village, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Naija News reports that the attack, which occurred on Wednesday afternoon, reportedly left several others injured and has thrown the quiet rural community into mourning.

A resident of the village, who spoke with Punch on condition of anonymity, linked the attackers to the notorious Lakurawa bandit group operating in the area.

According to the source, the heavily armed men stormed the community in broad daylight, opening fire on residents without provocation.

“We are deeply concerned about the continued acts of violence and the suffering communities are experiencing at the hands of bandits in various parts of this state,” the resident said.

The source confirmed that all 15 victims were buried on Wednesday evening in line with Islamic rites.

He also raised the alarm over what he described as insider collaboration, suggesting that the attackers often act on intelligence provided by informants within the communities.

“We strongly believe that such atrocities are often aided by information the bandits receive from some residents of the villages,” he alleged.

The villager urged residents to cooperate more closely with security agencies to prevent further bloodshed.

“It is, therefore, imperative that the public also intensify efforts to cooperate with security agencies,” he said.
