Ace Nigerian singer, Innocent Idibia, better known as 2Baba, has addressed his separation from his wife of over a decade, Annie Macaulay.

Naija News recalls that the ‘African Queen’ crooner, who tied the knot with Annie in May 2012, announced their divorce in January 2025 and his new relationship with Edo State Lawmaker, Natasha Osawaru.

In an interview on the 234 Mzansi Podcast, hosted by media personality, Nedu, 2Baba said they had given their best efforts to save the marriage but ultimately decided to part ways because it was not working.

The 49-year-old singer, who failed to give specific details on the crashed marriage, described Annie as an amazing woman, and stressed that no one should feel pressured to stay in an unhappy union.

Speaking further, 2Baba also argued that it is biologically impossible for men to be sexually committed to one woman.

He said, “I think both of us gave it our best. And why we’re not together today is not something I’m going to talk about publicly.

“Me and her have our own understanding. She’s amazing, it just wasn’t working no more. Something wey una get before wey no dey again, that’s why I said I won’t talk about it here.

“I think you should try to fix your marriage but if it’s beyond that, I don’t think anybody should force anything. Only people in the marriage know exactly what they’re feeling.

“It’s always good not to torture yourself, and not to allow society or people to dictate your feelings. Because this thing called ‘living in bondage’ is real and many people have gone to their grave very sad people.

“So for me, if it’s obvious that people cannot work things out then I don’t think anybody should force themselves to be together.

“I’ll speak for myself, but a man is not built to sexually be with one woman. His heart, love, and respect can be with one woman,

“But sexually, it is impossible for a man. An individual can decide not to go that route but I’m talking about the biology of men.

“It has gotten so many people into trouble and it’s a simple fact that you need to accept. Because so many heartache and unnecessary stress will be avoided if we understand this simple fact.”

The management of Nigerian legendary singer, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has dismissed claims that his relationship and marriage controversies on social media are affecting his legacy.

Naija News reports that 2Baba has remained a topic of discussion online following his divorce from his wife, Annie Idibia and marriage to Edo State lawmaker, Natasha Osawuru.

However, the Head of Legal and Communication at ‘A Guy Entertainment’, Chioma Ebubedike-Igbokwe, stressed that such distractions cannot diminish 2Baba’s legacy.

2Baba’s management stated that afrobeats’ current global dominance rests on the foundation built by pioneers like Idiba.

Ebubedike-Igbokwe emphasised that the management is actively creating platforms where 2Baba’s voice remains indispensable rather than competing with the new wave of artistes.

She said, “The truth is, controversy sells faster than music in today’s digital climate. But 2Baba’s legacy is untouchable. He is widely regarded as the greatest of all time in African music, and Billboard’s recognition of ‘African Queen’ as the number one afrobeats song of all time only underlines that fact. His catalogue and cultural impact speak louder than temporary noise. Every single song is timeless; this fact remains untouchable.

“Rather than compete with younger acts, our strategy is to showcase his unmatched depth, storytelling, and stagecraft. There’s a place for both the new wave and the legends, and we’re actively creating platforms where 2Baba’s voice remains indispensable. He creates conscious and meaningful music, and very few of the new generation can match his style. His status as the undisputed king of afrobeats remains unmatched. Just like legends such as Fela and Christy Essien-Igbokwe, his music is timeless. The younger ones should continually look up to him for inspiration.”

When questioned on 2Baba’s silence, she explained that it was intentional, adding that the singer will speak at the right time.

He said, “It doesn’t bother us, it challenges us. Social media thrives on drama, but history thrives on substance. 2Baba is already etched in history as the emotional voice of a generation. With new projects and tours in the pipeline, his cultural weight is undeniable. Silence is sometimes the best form of respect — for truth, for family, and for fans. 2Baba has chosen grace over noise. However, yes, there are plans for a formal sit-down where he addresses key matters on his own terms. When the time is right, he will speak, and as always, it will come from a place of honesty and humility.”

Photos have surfaced online from a low-key traditional wedding between Nigerian music icon, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face or 2Baba and Natasha Osawaru in Abuja.

Naija News learnt that 2Face and Osawaru were joined in a traditional ceremony on July 25, an event attended by close family members and select guests.

Although official details remain sparse, photos from the event have gone viral on social media, drawing widespread attention and sparking congratulatory messages from fans across the country.

In what many have described as a regal and deeply cultural affair, the couple appeared in traditional attire that paid homage to their heritage.

2Face was dressed in a pristine white short-sleeved native shirt with detailed grey embroidery, paired with a white wrapper tied smartly at the waist.

The legendary singer completed his look with multiple layers of coral bead necklaces and bracelets, a coral-beaded staff, sleek sunglasses, and spotless white shoes, blending royalty with modern flair.

Natasha Osawaru stunned in a radiant red off-shoulder gown, crowned with an elaborate okuku coral headpiece symbolic of Edo royalty. She adorned her neck, shoulders, and wrists with rich coral beads that reflected her heritage and elegance.

Naija News reports that their union comes barely six months after 2Face confirmed his separation from his estranged wife, actress Annie Macaulay Idibia, in January.

In February, he publicly proposed to Natasha, a development that stirred reactions among fans and entertainment followers.

By April, their relationship received further validation when Natasha visited 2Baba’s mother, Rose Idibia, who was initially reported to be unsupportive of the new union but later gave her blessing.

Since the wedding photos surfaced online, fans and well-wishers have flooded social media with congratulatory messages.

Many praised the couple for embracing culture and tradition, while others expressed surprise at the quiet nature of the ceremony.
