Kwara United and Rivers Angels are the winners of the 2024-2025 President Federation Cup after beating their respective opponents via penalties at the Onikan Stadium in Lagos on Saturday, June 28.
Kwara United, who have never won the President Federation Cup in their history, had to battle with a second-tier club, Abakaliki FC, in the final.
Note that the Ebonyi State-based side are tagged the giants slayers due to their fairytale run in the competition. They defeated high-flying Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) sides like Enyimba, Nasarawa United, and Ikorodu City en route to the final.
However, the Nigeria National League (NNL) side couldn’t repeat the feat against Kwara United who managed to beat them via penalties after a 90-minute goalless draw.
The 4-3 penalty win gave Kwara United their first ever major title and an opportunity to become the second Nigerian representative in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup alongside Abia Warriors.
In the women’s category, Rivers Angels won their record-extending 10th President Federation Cup title against Nasarawa Amazons.
Unlike in the men’s final, the women’s final ended in a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes before it was decided by a penalty shoot-out. Rukayat Shobowale scored two first-half goals to give Nasarawa State-based club the lead heading into the break.
But Rivers Angels picked themselves up in style as Taiwo Ajibade and ex-Flamingos midfielder Taiwo Afolabi gave the Port Harcourt side a deserved comeback.
During the penalty shootout, Nasarawa Amazons missed two of their kicks as Rivers Angels emerged champions of the 2025 Women’s President Federation Cup 4-2 on penalties.
