The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), the apex youth platform mandated by the National Youth Policy to coordinate youth engagement across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, hereby issues this official communique to announce and affirm the emergence of a new National Executive Council (NEC) led by Comrade Solomon Adodo as President.
This development arose from an Emergency National Management Meeting held on the 13th of June 2025 in Abuja, convened by NYCN stakeholders, affiliate-member organizations, zonal representatives, state chairmen, and veterans of the Council. The emergency session became imperative following a series of constitutional crises and leadership failures that had crippled the effectiveness and integrity of the Council.
I. EXPULSION OF MR. SUKUBO SARA-IGBE SUKUBO
After exhaustive deliberations and evidence-backed presentations, the Council resolved to expel Mr. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo from the NYCN with immediate effect. The expulsion was predicated on the following grave allegations and infractions:
- Forgery of official documents and unauthorized alterations of some articles in the NYCN Constitution, which undermines the integrity and credibility of the Council;
- Issuance of a dud cheque to the tune of ₦200,000,000 (Two Hundred Million Naira), bringing disrepute and legal scrutiny to the Council;
- Multiple constitutional breaches, including unilateral decision-making, suppression of statutory NEC meetings, and abuse of office;
- Gross incompetence and dereliction of duty, resulting in administrative paralysis and erosion of public trust in the Council.
The Council concluded that Mr. Sukubo’s leadership was not only unlawful and illegitimate in operation but also dangerously disconnected from the aspirations of Nigerian youths and the policy thrust of the present administration.
II. EXPULSION OF OTHER COMPLICIT OFFICERS
The Council also expelled the following officers for gross incompetence and aiding the constitutional breaches committed by Mr. Sukubo:
Mr. Innocent Nduanya – Former Deputy President
Abubakar Suleiman Esq. – Former Secretary General
These officers were found to have willfully abdicated their constitutional duties, enabling the administrative impunity and financial mismanagement under the erstwhile leadership.
III. CONSEQUENCES OF INCOMPETENT LEADERSHIP
The NYCN under Mr. Sukubo became a shadow of its purpose, failing to effectively represent Nigerian youths or provide a functional platform for grassroots mobilization. Despite numerous youth-targeted policies and empowerment projects initiated by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, these interventions have not been felt nor echoed across youth constituencies due to the Council’s disconnect and inaction.
This institutional dysfunction led to rising youth restiveness, misinformation, and avoidable agitations against a government that has, in fact, shown sincere commitment to youth development.
The NYCN, which should serve as a vehicle for communicating and cascading government policies and programmes to the grassroots, was rendered impotent by inept leadership and anti-government sentiments.
IV. EMERGENCE OF A NEW, PATRIOTIC LEADERSHIP
To ensure a seamless transition and continuity of operations, in response to the leadership vacuum created by the expulsion of Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo and some other NEC members, and following due process in accordance with the constitution of NYCN, a new NEC was constituted with the mandate to rebuild the Council, restore its integrity, and reposition it for national relevance. The newly elected and constituted executive is as follows:

This team comprises tested, passionate, and youth-driven patriots committed to promoting youth inclusion, national development, and good governance. The new leadership is duly recognized and supported by the vast majority of stakeholders across all six geo-political zones.
V. OUR COMMITMENT TO PARTNER WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
The NYCN under Comrade Solomon Adodo reaffirms its unshakable support for the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and expresses deep gratitude for:
- The appointment of a dynamic, youthful cum useful, accessible, and visionary Minister of Youth Development;
- The inclusion of young Nigerians in Ministerial positions and as Director Generals cum Executive Secretaries, appointment of young Nigerians into key federal boards, commissions, and strategic roles;
- The rollout of transformative empowerment projects for Nigerian youths, domiciled in various Federal Ministries, Agencies, and government parastatals;
- And giving a listening ear to our complaints and yearnings.
We are prepared to partner fully with the Federal Government and all its relevant institutions to ensure these interventions are well-communicated, effectively implemented, and equitably distributed to youths at all levels, especially the youths at the grassroots.
We assure Nigerians that under this new leadership, the NYCN will serve as a true bridge between the government and the youth, amplifying government efforts and engaging youth proactively in nation-building, while serving as the veritable cum loud voice of the Nigerian youth constituency.
VI. CALL FOR UNITY AND FORWARD ACTION
We call on all youth stakeholders, affiliate-member organizations, state chapters, zonal structures, civil society allies, government agencies cum parastatals, and international development partners to unite behind the new leadership of NYCN. The time has come to move forward – to reposition the Council as a credible, inclusive, and strategic voice for Nigerian youths. NYCN has reclaimed its space as the veritable vehicle through which the youths at the grassroots will feel the impact of the government and enjoy a fair share of all youth empowerment projects and interventions rolled out by the governments at all levels.
