Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has sanctioned the transformation of the May 2025 salary, which was disbursed prior to Eid-el-Adha, into a soft loan, to be repaid in three instalments.
A statement issued by the governor’s Press Secretary, Abubakar Bawa, on Friday, indicated that this decision was taken to alleviate the financial burden faced by civil servants after the festivities.
Aliyu remarked that this initiative was deemed essential due to the financial challenges that civil servants frequently encounter during significant religious celebrations.
He said, “I am aware that many of our workers are still facing financial challenges due to the expenses incurred during the Sallah festivities.
“This measure is intended to support them by easing immediate financial strain, allowing for repayment in three convenient monthly deductions.”
He conveyed a sense of hope that the initiative would offer significant relief and enhance the well-being of civil servants and their families.
The governor also instructed the prompt disbursement of salaries for June 2025 to all categories of workers within the state.
This encompasses employees of both state and local governments, Local Government Education Authorities, as well as pensioners, with payments anticipated to begin on Monday, June 30.
Aliyu reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to revitalising the civil service to improve service delivery.
He encouraged workers to reciprocate the government’s initiatives by demonstrating greater commitment, punctuality, and discipline in fulfilling their responsibilities.
Additionally, he expressed gratitude to the citizens of Sokoto State for their ongoing support and reiterated his resolve to provide further benefits of democracy.
