Arsenal’s rising star Myles Lewis-Skelly has signed a new five-year contract with the North London club, committing his long-term future to the side he has supported since childhood.
Myles Lewis-Skelly, 18, says he is determined to build a “legacy” at Arsenal as he continues his meteoric rise in professional football.
The versatile defender, who broke into the first team last season under Mikel Arteta, made an impressive 39 appearances in all competitions, helping Arsenal to a second-place finish in the Premier League, ten points behind champions Liverpool.
“I want to win everything there is to win in the game,” Lewis-Skelly told the club’s official website. “Trophies on the biggest stages, whilst being someone that’s always learning and stays grounded.”
Originally a central midfielder in Arsenal’s Hale End academy, Lewis-Skelly has flourished at left-back, earning praise for his tactical intelligence and defensive solidity.
Since his Premier League debut against Manchester City last September, he has been dribbled past just once, an unmatched statistic among players with at least 15 starts last season.
In addition to his defensive prowess, the youngster boasts a 93.6% pass accuracy, fifth highest in the Premier League for players who logged over 1,000 minutes. He also led in duels won (six per 90 minutes) and ranked third in fouls won (3.1).
Despite a challenging moment when he received two red cards during the campaign, one of which was later overturned, Lewis-Skelly bounced back strongly.
Just eight days after his rescinded sending-off against Wolves, he netted his first Premier League goal in a 5-1 thrashing of Manchester City and celebrated with a nod to Erling Haaland’s trademark meditation pose.
On the international stage, the teenager made headlines in March by becoming the youngest player to score on their England debut, netting in a 2-0 win over Albania at Wembley. He has since earned three caps, most recently featuring in the 3-1 loss to Senegal.
“I’ve embodied the values of Hale End and come through,” he added. “If I can keep staying humble and being a good person, that’s the most important thing to me.”
Lewis-Skelly’s performances last season earned him a nomination for the PFA Young Player of the Year award, cementing his status as one of England’s brightest prospects.
