The Katsina State branch of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has threatened to embark on an indefinite strike over issues relating to the payment of the new minimum wage.
The Katsina NLC stated that if by Monday, 25th November, there is no positive feedback from the state government on the payment of the ₦70,000 new minimum wage to workers in the state, then members would embark on strike.
The NLC Chairman in Katsina, Hussain Hamisu, expressed dissatisfaction with the failure of the state government to commence payment of the new minimum wage to workers despite the expiration of the deadline given for negotiations.
Hamisu said the move to commence a strike action is based on the directive of the NLC national leadership after its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Port Harcourt.
“The ongoing committee work on the implementation of the new minimum wage, inaugurated by the state government, has ended following the expiration of their deadline date. ’If by tomorrow Monday, there were (sic) no positive indication from the state government, we shall declare an indefinite strike in compliance with the directive from the NEC of the NLC at the last meeting in Port Harcourt,” he was quoted to have said according to The Nation.
