Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has approved the adoption of a Revised Training Curriculum for all police recruits, marking a key move toward improving the professionalism and operational capabilities of the Nigeria Police Force.
This updated curriculum covers a broad range of subjects, including the Police Act 2020, aimed at familiarizing recruits with the current legal framework governing police operations.
It also includes training on the Nigeria Police Force’s Social Media Policy, ensuring that recruits understand proper online conduct and the role of social media in policing.
Other areas of focus include Computer Studies, Gender Mainstreaming, Sex Education, Anti-Corruption Laws, Gender-Based Crime Prevention, the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities Prohibition Act, Election Security under the Electoral Act 2022, Public Relations and Public Speaking, Cartography, Map Reading, Human Relations, Report Writing, the Cybercrime Act 2015, Artificial Intelligence, Combat Crafts, and Attitudinal and Behavioral Changes.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that this revised curriculum would equip police recruits to handle the complexities of policing in Nigeria while adhering to international best practices.
He added that the IGP’s commitment to intellectual development and capacity building is key to fostering professionalism and a community-focused approach among recruits, ensuring they carry out their duties within the confines of the law.
Adejobi said in a statement, “This new training curriculum, when fully implemented, would prepare the recruits for the challenges to be faced in policing a complex society like Nigeria and how best to execute their duties in line with international best practices.
“Implementing this revised curriculum aligns with the IGP’s dedication to intellectual and capacity building within the Nigeria Police Force. By addressing critical training areas, the IGP aims to improve recruits’ optimal performance level, professionalism, and community-oriented approach, preparing them to discharge their duties effectively within the ambit of the law.
“The Nigeria Police Force is committed to continuous improvement and sensitisation of its officers, ensuring that they are not only well-trained but also equipped with the prerequisite knowledge and skills required to effectively meet the high demands of Policing in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, to achieve a crime-free society we deserve.”
