Update: Police Arrest 18 Protesters During #EndSARS Memorial

Two Feared Killed As Police Clash With Protesters In Nasarawa Over Supreme Court Ruling

The National Spokesman for the Youth Rights Campaign (YRC), Hassan Taiwo Soweto, and 17 members of the #EndBadGovernance Movement, were arrested by the police at Lekki Tollgate in Lagos during a protest.

Naija News reports that the demonstration was held on Sunday to commemorate the victims of the #EndSARS protests against police brutality in October 2020.

As of this report, the location of the detained protesters remains unknown. Among those arrested are Remilekun Orunsolu, Olamide Thomas, Micheal Adedeji, Adeseye Eshe, and Olamilekan Sanusi.

A source speaking to SaharaReporters revealed that the arrests followed a police crackdown on the peaceful protest.

“Some of our comrades were arrested today after police tear-gassed our protest,” the source said.

Nigerian human rights activist Omoyele Sowore also condemned the arrests via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, demanding their immediate release and criticizing the government’s continued suppression of peaceful protests.

He stated, “The most senseless police force in the world. Why attack peaceful protesters? Did the Nigeria Police Force think they can use brute force to save Buhari, Tinubu, and @jidesanwoolu for their role at Lekki Toll Gate massacre? NEVER!!! #RevolutionNow.”
