Senate Approves Lawal As National Coordinator, CEO Of NSIPA

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Dr. Badamasi Lawal’s nomination as the National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA).

Naija News reports that this decision followed the Senate’s review and acceptance of a report by the Senate Committee on Poverty Alleviation and Social Investments, which had earlier screened Lawal for the role.

The committee, chaired by Senator Idiat Oluranti Adebule, presented a positive assessment of Lawal’s qualifications, confirming that he met all necessary legal and professional criteria for the position.

During the Senate session, when Senate President Godswill Akpabio put the confirmation to a voice vote, lawmakers unanimously approved Lawal’s appointment.

Dr. Lawal’s nomination was originally put forward by President Bola Tinubu in an August 8 statement from his former spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale.

Before this, Lawal had served as the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Katsina State, a role which contributed to his reputation for public service and leadership.

This appointment comes after the suspension of NSIPA’s former CEO, Halima Shehu, amid allegations of financial misconduct.

Following Shehu’s suspension, Akindele Egbuwalo, the national manager of the N-Power programme, temporarily stepped in as acting CEO until the conclusion of investigations.
