Former Chelsea star, Joe Cole believes that Brazilian winger, Antony has been struggling at Manchester United because he was not built for the high intensity of Premier League football.
Recall that Manchester United paid a whopping €95 million to secure the services of Antony from Dutch side Ajax on August 30, 2022, due to his prolific form.
Unfortunately, his form has dropped drastically to the extent his market value has dropped as low as €25 million. He has also lost his place in Manchester United’s starting lineup and has managed to make just one appearance in the Premier League so far this season.
According to Cole, Antony’s struggle to secure a starting position in the Premier League this season may indicate that he is considering a move away from the club.
Cole pointed out that while Antony possesses exceptional technical skills and talent, he seems to be finding it challenging to adapt to the physicality of the Premier League.
The former England international also noted that despite a promising performance against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup, he doesn’t foresee Antony making a significant impact in Manchester United’s starting lineup this season.
“The problem with Antony at Manchester United is I think he is a player that is perfect for the Dutch league,” Cole told Paddy Power.
“I think the physicality of the Premier League is something he struggles with. He is a talented footballer with great technique and skill, and it was good to see him playing well against Barnsley.
“But I don’t see him making an impact in the United starting team this season and I can’t see him turning it around at Manchester United.
“With Antony, I think he’s playing for a move away from the club and I think United will move past him.”
