Top Deals Completed On 2024 Summer Transfer Window Deadline Day

The 2024 summer transfer window for top leagues in Europe has officially closed last night, August 30, and the Premier League teams have collectively spent over £1.96 billion on player acquisitions.

According to data from Football Transfers, the said amount is more than double the spending of Italy’s Serie A teams in the 2024 summer transfer window.

Some of the most notable deals were announced in the early hours following the deadline day on August 30. One of the eye-catching moves was Chelsea’s winger Raheem Sterling joining Arsenal on a season-long loan, while Chelsea confirmed the signing of Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho on a similar arrangement.

Both transfers required deal sheets to be signed, extending the deadline by two hours and leaving fans waiting late into the night for confirmation.

Another last-minute transfer saw England striker Ivan Toney completing a £40 million move from Brentford to the Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli.

Before allowing Sancho to leave, Manchester United made the highest fee signing of the day, acquiring Paris St-Germain and Uruguay midfielder Manuel Ugarte for an initial £42.1 million, with the potential to rise to £50.5 million after add-ons.

This filled the gap left by Scotland international Scott McTominay, who moved to Serie A side Napoli for £25.7 million on transfer deadline day.

Additionally, forward Eddie Nketiah joined Crystal Palace from Arsenal in a deal worth around £30 million minutes before the window closed.

In the early hours of deadline day, Arsenal also sold goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale to Southampton for £25 million.
