The draw for the 2024-2025 Europa League was announced by UEFA earlier today, August 30, revealing some exciting match-ups.
This season, UEFA has made significant changes to the Europa League by replacing the traditional group phase with a league phase where teams will play eight different opponents – four home and four away – before the knockouts begin in early 2025.
Just like in the new UEFA Champions League format, Teams finishing in the top eight will qualify automatically for the last 16, while those placing ninth to 24th will compete in a two-legged knockout play-off for the chance to advance.
Teams that finish 25th or lower will be eliminated and will not qualify for the Conference League.
With the new format, the number of matches will increase from 125 to 189. Each team will play a minimum of eight games and a maximum of 17.
The Europa League action is set to begin on September 25-26, and with the increased number of fixtures, the league phase will run until January 30, rather than finishing before Christmas.
The final of this season’s Europa League is scheduled to take place at San Mames, the home stadium of Athletic Bilbao in Spain on Wednesday, May 21, 2025.
