On Wednesday at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Nigeria’s Christianah Ogunsanya suffered a setback in the women’s freestyle 53kg event.
Ogunsanya lost her second-round bout to Mongolia’s Khulan Batkhuyag to miss out on the opportunity of contending for the Olympics gold. As a result, she will now vie for a bronze medal in the Repechage round.
Meanwhile, in the men’s 800m, Edose Ibadin finished in 6th place in heat 2. The race was won by Gabriel Tual of France, who clocked a time of 1:45.13.
Ireland’s Mark English secured second place at the same time, and Botswana’s Tshepiso Masalela finished third with a time of 1:45.58.
Ibadin will have the opportunity to compete in the Repechage round for a chance to progress to the semi-finals.
Note that no Nigerian athlete has been able to win a medal so far at the 2024 Olympics with just four days left to the end of the tournament.
The United States of America are currently topping the medals table with a total of 86 medals, while the hosts, France, are sitting on the 4th spot with a total of 48 medals.
