Rivers State House of Assembly Speaker, Victor Oko-Jumbo, has declared that his leadership will ensure full support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara to enjoy an uninterrupted four years of governance.
Oko-Jumbo also hopes that the governor get re-elected in the coming election.
Naija News reports that the lawmaker made this remark while representing Governor Fubara during the launch of an empowerment program in the Ikwerre Local Government Area over the weekend.
According to him, the governor has issued a firm warning to caretaker committee chairmen in the 23 local government areas of the state.
He clarified that any chairman who does not prioritize empowering their constituents will face removal from their position.
Governor Fubara stressed that the main responsibility of the CTC chairmen is to serve the people and ensure they benefit from government initiatives.
He expressed the expectation that the chairmen would follow the governor’s example and implement similar empowerment programs in their LGAs.
Oko-Jumbo also highlighted the governor’s swift response to the hunger protest on August 1, underscoring his commitment to the welfare of the people.
He urged officials to align with the governor’s vision by enhancing empowerment projects in their respective localities.
“Any caretaker committee chairman that is not empowering his people will be removed.
“Your duty is to your people first. Today, we are here to witness that empowerment, which was the instruction the governor gave,” he stated.
Speaking in his capacity as Speaker, Oko-Jumbo praised the unified leadership of Ikwerre LGA for standing firm with the governor, resulting in development for the people.
The lawmaker stated, “Let me use this medium to assure our people that the Rivers State House Assembly, led by Victor Oko-Jumbo, will continue to give the governor the needed support so that the state must succeed until 2027. We will ensure that the governor will have uninterrupted four years of governance in this state. And if permitted, he will have another four years.”
Oko-Jumbo cautioned that, under his guidance, the State House of Assembly will not shy away from summoning any council chairman who does not address the issue of empowerment within their jurisdiction with the requisite seriousness.
Prior to this, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Dr. Darlington Orji, expressed that the initiation of the empowerment program has been a realization of his longstanding aspiration to augment security within the council.
He revealed that as an initiative to enhance security measures, he had allocated operational vehicles to six police divisions within the council, including the Department of State Services.
Dr. Orji underscored the importance of peace and security as fundamental prerequisites for progress, highlighting his administration’s dedication to realizing this vision.
