Flashback: Wike Slams APC For Promising To Continue From ‘Where Buhari Stopped’ [Video]

Flashback: How Wike Insisted Godfatherism Would Not Work In Rivers State, Promised To Stay Out Of State Affairs After Leaving Office

As protests continue across Nigeria over widespread hardship, an old video of the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has resurfaced, drawing renewed attention.

In the clip, Wike criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for its intention to extend the policies of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Back in 2022, several presidential candidates from the APC, including President Bola Tinubu, pledged to carry on with what they described as the “good work” of Buhari’s administration.

At the time, Wike, then Governor of Rivers State and a presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), questioned the notion of continuing Buhari’s alleged achievements.

The video, which began circulating on Thursday, features Wike questioning the accomplishments of the previous government.

Wike was heard saying that the only accomplishments of the previous government were “people dying every day” and the naira “falling every day.”

Wike said, “It is most unfortunate when I hear people under APC declaring they want to continue the good job of Mr President—the good job of people dying every day, the good job of the naira falling every day.

“I feel so ashamed that we have reached the level of sycophancy where people say they want to continue the good work of Buhari. What is the good work of Buhari—hunger, poverty, insecurity, and an economy in decline?

“I can’t believe that someone would come out today and say they want to continue where Mr Buhari left off. May God never allow that evil to continue.

Nigerians, reflecting on the state of the economy under the previous administration, have noted that conditions worsened after President Tinubu took office in 2023.

Currently serving as the Minister of the FCT under the APC administration, Wike has urged Nigerians to be patient with Tinubu’s government, claiming that the president needs more time to improve the nation’s fortunes.

Despite the protests, Wike has expressed confidence in Tinubu’s intentions for the country.

The resurfacing of the old video has led to criticism of Wike, with many accusing him of double standards.

The video is being widely shared and commented on across social media platforms.
