Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has voiced strong opposition to the planned nationwide protests, while emphasizing the Federal Government’s dedication to resolving the current economic difficulties.
Governor Sani made these remarks on his official Facebook page during a town hall meeting with traditional rulers and other key figures in the state.
He acknowledged the widespread economic hardships faced by Nigerians due to years of economic mismanagement, corruption, and lack of accountability.
However, he assured that President Tinubu is actively working to address these issues and revitalize the economy.
“The President has introduced policies aimed at reinventing the economy and putting the country back on the path to sustainable growth and development.
“The implementation of some policies, we must admit, has been painful. However, these pains are temporary. The severe economic situation the country faced required a surgical operation,” Governor Sani stated.
He commended the President’s bold approach to economic reform and encouraged support for these efforts, emphasizing that progress is being made.
Governor Sani highlighted the dual challenge of economic reform and addressing security issues in Kaduna State, including banditry, insurgency, and kidnapping.
He stressed that maintaining peace and stability is crucial given the impact of insecurity on food security, education, healthcare, and the rural economy.
“In our current context as a state, we are grappling with security challenges such as banditry, insurgency, and kidnapping. We are acutely aware of the enduring effects of insecurity on the socio-economic life of our citizens—threats to food security, education, healthcare delivery, civic freedom, social cohesion, and especially our rural economy. At this time, our peace and stability are paramount.
“The current times demand deep introspection, sound reasoning, a high sense of patriotism, and sacrifices for the collective good. It is imperative that we follow the path of wisdom and focus on the brighter future ahead.
“Nobody or group in Kaduna State has approached the Nigeria Police with the intention of organising a protest. The police have the constitutional responsibility for maintaining peace and order. Kaduna State is therefore united in saying NO TO ANY PROTEST.
“We hold our peace dear and are committed to protecting it,” he further declared.
At the town hall meeting, participants unanimously opposed any protests, citing negative past experiences.
They praised the administration’s efforts to enhance security, address developmental issues, and engage citizens through such meetings.
The Emir of Zazzau, His Royal Highness Amb. Nuhu Bamalli, urged caution and called on citizens to prioritize peace.
He warned against the destructive consequences seen in other African countries where protests led to significant turmoil and instability.
