Akwa-Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has said the 19-storey towers to be built in Lagos and Abuja would be sold upon completion to standby investors.
Governor Umo Eno said his administration planned to invest in the Lagos and Abuja multibillion property market through the 19-storey towers.
Chief Press Secretary to Governor Eno, Ekerete Udo, said this on Sunday, on his X handle. Udo’s statement followed a petition against the projects signed by over 1000 Akwa-Ibom citizens, including a human rights lawyer, Effiong Inibehe.
He said workers for the tower buildings would be Akwa-Ibom State indigenes residents in Lagos and Abuja. He explained that the state government was not taking the state’s money “anywhere” but investing it.
“We are not taking Akwa Ibom money anywhere. It is Akwa Ibom people that will work there. We have Akwa Ibom citizens in Lagos and Abuja. We are converting those buildings to commercial buildings. All will be sold. We will recover our money,” Udo quoted Governor Eno.
The statement added that the Akwa-Ibom State Houses, acquired in 1991, have been “totally dilapidated and yielding no revenue.”
Udo added that the tower buildings would have “30 apartments, flats, duplexes, penthouse apartments, reception hall, club, and lounges.”
He said the towers would serve as a revenue earner for the state with a guaranteed return on investment. The Chief Press Secretary said there are already standby buyers and tenants who have indicated interest in the tower projects.
Udo said profit from the 19-storey towers, when completed, would be deployed for the social economic development of the state.
