Gov Oyebanji Makes Fresh Announcement On Ekiti NYSC Orientation Camp

Buhari's Aide Ojudu Meets Ekiti Governor-elect, Oyebanji

The Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, has issued a directive for the state’s Bureau of Special Projects to carry out an integrity assessment on every structure within the National Youth Service Corps Orientation Camp at Ise/Orun Emure Ekiti.

Oyebanji issued this order during a meeting in Ado Ekiti on Monday, alongside the Governing Council of the NYSC, which is chaired by Ekiti State Commissioner for Youth Development, Gold Adedayo.

Naija News reported earlier that some corps members deployed in Ekiti State sustained varying degrees of injuries following the collapse of a section of the NYSC orientation camp in Ise-Emure, Ekiti.

It was reported on Friday that the wall of the female section of the hostel collapsed in the morning hour of the day.

This development prompted the latest decision by the governor in an attempt to evaluate the structural safety of the buildings for the NYSC members.

It’s also worth noting that after the incident, Governor Oyebanji has mandated the construction of 45 toilet and bathroom units at the camp, with the construction commencing on Monday morning.

Additionally, he has instructed the state electricity board to supply solar-powered electricity to the camp.

The governor said, “The first thing we have to do is to conduct an integrity test on all the buildings in that camp. The outcome of the integrity test will guide the government’s further actions on the camp facilities in a bid to improve the overall living conditions within the camp.

“The integrity test would involve a thorough inspection of the camp’s structures to assess their durability and safety standard”.

Oyebanji emphasized the importance of immediate enhancements to the NYSC camp’s infrastructure, promising the corps members that his government would provide ongoing support and acknowledgement for their hard work.

He said, “My response to your request, there are some that we will do immediately, the issue of solar light, I will ask the people in charge of electricity to go there and see how we can put solar light, that will be done immediately”.

in his remark earlier, Alhaji Riko Shuaibu, the State NYSC Coordinator, expressed his gratitude to the governor for his dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of the youth corps and for his consent to the development of 45 new modern toilets and bathroom facilities.

Shuaibu mentioned that the main goal of the visit was to discuss the difficulties faced by the NYSC camp with the governor and to request assistance from the state government.
