Aston Villa and England forward, Ollie Watkins has admitted that FC Barcelona and Spain forward, Lamine Yamal is miles ahead of him when he was 16 to 17 years old.
Lamine Yamal has created and broken a series of records including being the only teenager to provide three assists in a single European Championship.
When Ollie Watkins was 17 years old, he was playing for an EFL Championship side, Exeter City and was not anywhere close to England’s youth team.
But as for Lamine Yamal, he has been playing for FC Barcelona’s senior team since he clocked 16 and has established himself in Spain’s senior team at the said age.
Yamal is on the verge of leading Spain to win the Euro 2024 in Germany against 28-year-old Ollie Watkins who made his international debut for England in 2021.
Yamal’s most outstanding moment at the Euro 2024 was his wonder goal against France in the tournament’s semi-finals. The goal helped Spain to equalize and went on to beat the 2018 FIFA World Cup champions 2-1.
“He [Lamine Yamal] is an unbelievable talent, everyone has seen what he can do. A generational talent”, Ollie Watkins said as per renowned journalist Reshad Rahman.
“It’s not often you are scoring against France in the semi-final of the Euros when you are 16. He’s got the world at his feet. He’s miles ahead of me when I was 16 or 17.”
Below are Lamine Yamal’s records before he turned 17-year-old:
◉ The youngest player ever to score at the Euros.
◉ The youngest player ever to assist at the Euros.
◉ The youngest player ever to feature at the Euros.
◉ The youngest player ever to feature in el Clásico.
