Former Manchester United star, Patrice Evra, has taken to his Instagram page to rubbish reports that he was sentenced to 12 months in prison for abandoning his family.
Reports went viral on Friday, July 12, that Patrice Evra, 43-year-old former French national team captain was handed a 12-month suspended prison sentence.
He received this punishment after a court in France found him guilty of abandoning his estranged wife and his two children.
According to a French publication, Le Parisien, the court ruled that Patrice Evra abandoned his two children alongside his ex-wife, Sandra Evra, between May 1, 2021 and September 28, 2023.
During the said period, the retired footballer owed her €969,000 in unpaid alimony.
While Evra’s 12-month sentence is suspended for two years with provisional execution, the ex-footballer has been mandated to pay €4,000 for moral damages and €2,000 for legal costs.
Note that Patrice Evra and his estranged wife, Sandra, got married in 2007. The marriage crashed in 2020 when Evra was seen kissing Danish model Margaux Alexandra.
After his marriage with Sandra collapsed, the Frenchman went on to start a relationship with Alexandra which has produced two children.
While reacting to his 12-month sentence, Patrice Evra posted a video of himself in handcuffs, wearing big gold chains and in an environment that looks like a prison yard. While jamming to a rap song, the Frenchman was heard saying the suspended prison sentence was “rubbish news”.
“Let me shut down this rubbish news: look how much I enjoyed myself in prison”, he was heard saying in the video.
