The lawmaker representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Chief Ibe Okwara Osonwa, on Wednesday urged the federal government to urgently intervene in the boundary crisis between Isu community in Abia State and Ukwa Community in Cross River State, which left one person dead, with at least 10 others injured.

There had been acrimony between the communities of Isu in the Arochukwu Local Government Area of Abia State and Ukwa in the Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State.

Our correspondent gathered that the boundary issue had been lingering for a long time as residents of the Isu community were attacked by people from the neighbouring Ukwa community, leaving one Mrs Alade Kalu Elem, dead.

Moving the motion, Hon. Osonwa prayed that: “A minute silence in honour of Mrs. Mrs. Alade Kalu Elem of Obiezu/Ohabuike of Isu Community be observed by the house.

“Urge the House Committee on Defence to quickly request the set-up of a Peacekeeping Post between the boundary communities to intervene and restore order, peace and normalcy in the affected communities to forestall and prevent the continued loss of lives and properties.

“Urge the National Boundary Commission (NBC) to delineate the boundary that will bring a permanent restoration of peace and tranquillity to the troubled area.

“Urge the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to intervene with relief materials; including food, clothing and medication for the IDPs.”

These prayers were passed and sent to the relevant committees for action.
