The residence of a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State, Diekivie Ikiogha, was attacked by suspected political thugs on Tuesday, in the Kpansia area of Yenagoa, the state capital.
Naija News learnt that the thugs were said to have thrown an explosive believed to be dynamite into the building around 2 am, which affected the window panes, the spot where the explosive landed.
According to PUNCH, none of the occupants at the residence of Ikiogha, a former Commissioner for Agriculture and Chief of Staff at the Government House, Yenagoa, was injured in the attack.
A resident who spoke on the incident said, “I heard a big explosion from this building around 2am last night. But I don’t know what caused it.”
In the build-up to the governorship polls in Bayelsa, Ikiogha moved from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Labour Party, where he bought the form and contested the primary election but lost to the LP governorship candidate, Udengs Eradiri.
The politician returned to the PDP last week, many years after he defected to the APC.
Similarly, two unidentified persons were also reported to have sustained gunshot wounds after they were attacked and shot by unknown thugs within the Opolo axis of the state capital.
