The spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has come under heavy criticism after sharing a photo of a pretty police officer, DSP David Victoria, on social media holding an expensive phone and wearing a luxury wristwatch.
This comes after the Force PRO, via the microblogging platform, X, formerly known as Twitter, on Friday shared the photo of the female police officer to show that the Force has beautiful and intelligent officers.
Sharing her photo, he wrote: “We have beautiful and intelligent ones in the force. This is DSP David Victoria, Secretary to the IGP. Happy weekend.”
However, this did not sit well with some users who called out the police spokesmen, inquiring how much the officer’s salary was, for her to be able to afford the luxury cellphone and watch, as seen in the photograph shared.
A quick check by this publication showed that the price of the phone, which is a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, ranges from 70,000 naira to 750,000.
Another X user also requested that Victoria’s account statement be printed out to track her cash inflow, saying that her salary cannot afford such an expensive gadget.
Reacting, Adejobi stated that it is ridiculous for Nigerians to believe that police officers can not afford expensive phones.
The police spokesman said netizens need to be “straight and be objective” when questioning police officers’ source of income.
