Deontay Wilder’s Trainer Compares Anthony Joshua To Mike Tyson

Deontay Wilder’s trainer and former heavyweight boxer, Malik Scott, claimed that Anthony Joshua punches like legendary boxer, Mike Tyson.

This is contrary to the viral assertion that Anthony Joshua has lost his intense pushing form which sped up his rise in the heavyweight category.

So far in his successful boxing career, the 33-year-old Nigerian-British boxer has knocked out 20 of his opponents, including Charles Martin, Carlos Takam, and Wladimir Klitschko.

Joseph Parker was the first to outlast him in 2018, and since then he has suffered three defeats, two more points victories, and just two knockouts.

Despite the mixed results, Deontay Wilder’s trainer, Malik Scott, has acknowledged the stature and strength of Anthony Joshua and made some unexpected comparisons between AJ and Tyson in an interview with TalkSport.

He said, “[People in America think that] he’s a big guy that can fight, he’s got too many muscles. It seems like Stateside people talk more about his build than his skillset. In my opinion, Joshua has put together punches more than any heavyweight in the last 10-15 years, I mean combinations.

“With AJ’s build and his size, I’ve seen him put together punches like an early Mike Tyson put together shots.”

Malik Scott’s assertion is coming days after Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn announced that agreements had been reached for AJ and Wilder to face off.

The potential bout between the British boxer and the American boxer has been lingering for months. It was first speculated that the fight would take place in Saudi Arabia in December but recent reports claimed that the fight would happen in early 2024.

Ahead of the potential fight, Deontay Wilder’s trainer claimed that his client can do well in every era of heavyweight boxing, unlike Anthony Joshua.

He said, “I think in any era Deontay Wilder’s presence would have been felt by [Muhammad] Ali, [George] Foreman, everybody. I believe he would be a force to be reckoned with in any era. I think the same with Tyson Fury, but I’m not too sure about the too many of the other guys. Oleksandr Usyk also, he’s better than he gets credit for.”
