N100m Is Not A Big Deal, It Is People’s Money – Akpabio

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, has said that any serious presidential candidate should be able to cough out N100m.

Naija News reports that the N100m is the price set for the purchase of the All Progressive Congress, APC, expression of interest and nominations form. Many Nigerians have complained that such huge amount would simply aid corruption.

However, Akpabio has said that any serious presidential aspirant should be able to get N100m without visiting the bank.

He explained that the money is not the politicians money but those of the people supporting them.

Akpabio said this when he appeared on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday.

He said: “The N100m in my view is very fair. You see, even in modern democracies like America, it is not the candidate that sends himself into president.

“So, when you talk about Nigeria, just 100 Nigerians bringing out N1m will give you N100m.

“I want to think that any serious presidential candidate does not need to go into his bank account and bring out N100m because you are not the person going to vote for yourself.”
