An ally of President Muhammadu Buhari, Farouk Adamu Aliyu on Wednesday night was attacked by unknown gunmen suspected to be hired assassins in Kano State.
The security guard of the former lawmaker who represented his constituency in the House of Representatives was injured in the attack on his residence.
The wife of the All Progressives Congress chieftain, Zuwaira in a post on her Facebook account wrote, “My husband escaped hired assassins last night in Kano. May Allah continue to protect him and us Ameen.”
The development was confirmed by the local image-maker of the state police command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
According to Kiyawa, the intelligence unit of the command has launched a manhunt for the gunmen.
He further stated that the police would not rest until those behind the attack are apprehended.
It was stated that the gunmen forcefully gained entry into the house and injured the security men stationed at the gate.
The gunmen reportedly tied the security personnel on duty but were unable to gain access to Aliyu.
A further report revealed that the timely arrival of a detachment of combat-ready anti-riot police officers saved the day.
