President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday swore in new commissioners for the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) as well as the National Population Commission (NPC).
The commissioners were sworn in shortly before the commencement of the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House in Abuja.
Naija News recalls all the commissioners had earlier been screened and confirmed by the Senate following their appointment by the President.
Those confirmed for the NPC are Chief Benedict Ukpong Effiong (Akwa Ibom), Mrs. Gloria Fateya Izonfo (Bayelsa), Kupchi Patricia Ori Iyanya (Benue), Dr. Haliru Bala (Kebbi), and Dr. Eyitayo Oyekunle Oyetunji (Oyo) for the National Population Commission (NPC).
The Commissioners for the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission are Assistant Inspector General of Police, Olugbenga Adeyanju (rtd) (Ekiti State), Senator Anthony Agbo (Ebonyi), Anne Otelafu Odey (Cross River), Alh. Goni Ali Gujba (Yobe), and Dr Louis Solomon Mandama (Adamawa).
Meanwhile, a former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has reacted to the call by the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) for President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately resign from office following the killings in the country.
Naija News had earlier reported that the Director, Publicity and Advocacy of NEF, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, made the call in a statement on Tuesday.
According to Baba-Ahmed, President Buhari’s administration does not appear to have answers to the security challenges in the country.
The NEF spokesman added that the Nigerian constitution allows leaders to voluntarily step down if they prove incapable of leading.
Baba-Ahmed noted that criminals in the country have sensed the vacuum at the highest levels of leadership.
Reacting in a tweet via his Twitter handle on Tuesday evening, Shehu Sani disagreed with the northern elders for asking President Buhari to resign from office.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart advised the NEF to allow the president to finish his tenure and conduct the 2023 general elections.
