Some yet to be identified gunmen have reportedly killed a serving officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Sunday Omiwoye, in Ondo State.
Naija News understands that the deceased was trying to rescue a man at gunpoint when the assailants cut short his life.
The wife of the deceased, Mrs Bunmi Sunday, explained that the incident happened on Sunday night while she and her husband were visiting a family friend at the Agbala area of Ondo.
“My husband and I went to see one of his friends that stays on the same street with us. Suddenly, some men ran towards where we were standing by the gate. My husband was trying to park his motorcycle then. So, two gunmen came on a bike and started beating the boy that ran to us,” The PUNCH Metro quoted the deceased’s wife as saying.
According to her, the hoodlums had warned them not to meddle in their affair when the husband tried to step in in the first place.
However, after she had entered the gate, her husband who paid a deaf ear to the warning of the hoodlums, stood outside beside his motorcycle.
“Later, we heard a gunshot. So, I ran out of the gate and saw my husband on the floor in a pool of his own blood. The gunmen ran away with his phone and motorcycle key,” Mrs Sunday said.
Naija News understands that the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital morgue in Ondo for autopsy.
However, all efforts to speak with the state Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, proved abortive as she did not take her calls and the message sent to her was not replied to as of the time of filing this report.
