Uruguayan professional footballer, Edinson Cavani, has reportedly decided he is not extending his contract with Manchester United.
Naija News recalls that the 34-year-old striker joined the English Premier League side on 5th October 2020 on a year contract deal.
Cavani was signed to Old Trafford by the former club manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
However, following the arrival of Raff Rangnick as Manchester United’s new interim manager, Cavani has reportedly made up his mind to join La Liga giants, FC Barcelona.
According to the Times report, Cavani made the decision because he was unsure if he would fit in in the new squad to be set up by the current manager.
The Uruguayan fears that he would spend days on the bench considering the fact that United’s 63-year-old manager enjoys working with young players and plays pressing football.
Naija News understands that Cavani had only scored 11 Premier League goals for United. He netted 10 goals last season and has scored just once in the ongoing Premier League campaign.
The Uruguayan is understood to have always made his desire to play in Spain public and he was on the verge of joining Barcelona’s rivals Atletico Madrid before Man United made a late move for him in 2020.
Cavani is said to be planning on joining Barca next summer to fulfil his dream of playing in Spain.
Naija News understands that the Catalans had expressed an interest in Cavani last summer when their superstar Lionel Messi’s dumped the club.
