Unknown gunmen on Monday attacked the new Nnewi Police Area Command in seven vehicles, carting away weapons.
It was disclosed that the gunmen who carted away weapons, came in and started shooting sporadically for over an hour.
It was gathered that the incident which happened on Monday afternoon lasted for more than an hour.
The spokesman of the Anambra State police command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, while confirming the attack, claimed that the gunmen were repelled by the police operatives.
He further stated that the police and other security agencies in the area are currently there to ensure that adequate security.
A resident who spoke on the incident claimed that the gunmen overpowered the police and carted away arms.
The resident further stated that by the time a reinforcement came from the Navy arrived, the attackers had left.
