The Governor of Katsina State, Mallam Dikko Radda, has hailed former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (retd.), as a living legend as the latter marks his 90th birthday.
In a message issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammad, and made available to newsmen in Katsina on Saturday, Radda characterized the nonagenarian as a prominent elder statesman, noting that his dedication to the unity of Nigeria, especially during the difficult times of the Civil War, remains a source of inspiration for many generations of Nigerians.
According to him, Gowon led Nigeria in the most trying times and also hailed his subsequent dedication to ensuring peace in the country.
“General Gowon’s leadership during Nigeria’s most testing times, and his subsequent dedication to peace through his ‘Nigeria Prays’ initiative, exemplifies the spirit of true patriotism.
“The Governor particularly commends General Gowon’s post-war reconciliation policy of ‘No Victor, No Vanquished,’ which he notes was instrumental in healing the nation’s wounds and fostering the reintegration that followed the civil war.
“At 90, General Gowon remains a living legend whose life’s work centres on the unity, peace, and progress of our dear nation. His dedication to Nigeria’s corporate existence and his continued prayers for our nation’s prosperity deserve our collective appreciation,” the Governor’s statement reads.
“Governor Radda prays for General Gowon’s continued good health and divine grace,” it added.
