The National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kamaldeen Ajibade, has cautioned that the opposition party must urgently resolve its internal disputes and restore unity or risk losing out in the 2027 presidential election.
Naija News reports that Ajibade sounded the warning at the PDP National Restoration Movement National Summit in Abuja, where leaders and members deliberated on reconciliation and the party’s future.
The legal adviser stressed that only a united PDP could be a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“A fractured PDP cannot heal a fractured nation. It is only when we restore internal harmony and democracy that we can credibly present ourselves as the alternative Nigeria desperately seeks,” Ajibade declared.
He warned that unresolved disputes within the party could resurface in the lead-up to 2027, weakening the opposition’s ability to challenge the APC.
Ajibade reminded members of the party’s track record in government, pointing to reforms and policies introduced under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
“Under PDP, Nigeria stabilised democracy, attracted foreign investment, and reformed telecommunications, banking, and pensions. These are legacies we must not allow infighting to erase,” he said.
The PDP chieftain urged members to put aside selfish interests in favour of party unity.
“A house divided against itself cannot stand. A divided PDP cannot win elections. A divided PDP cannot save Nigeria,” he warned.
Ajibade continued: “Unity requires sacrifice. We must place Nigeria above personal ambition. Ambition is not a sin, but when ambition threatens the core values and existence of the party we have all built, it becomes destructive.”
Naija News understands that the summit ended with renewed calls for reconciliation among warring factions as the PDP intensifies preparations for 2027.
