Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has slammed the former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

Naija News recalls that Tambuwal, in a recent interview, declared loyalty to Atiku over Wike, despite his friendship with the latter.

Tambuwal insisted his choices were guided by governance values rather than friendship.

He said, “When it comes to leadership of this country and leadership of the people, I would rather support Atiku than Nyesom Wike.” 

In response, Wike, while featuring on Channels Television’s  ‘Politics Today’ programme on Thursday night, said both Tambuwal and Atiku are consistent betrayers.

According to him, Tambuwal’s loyalty lies with Atiku, stressing that “There’s no way Tambuwal would go without Atiku, knowing full well their antecedents.”

He added, “I have never come out on national television to talk about Aminu Tambuwal, but this is an opportunity to talk about him.

“When you talk about leadership and friendship, you can’t talk about leadership and you don’t talk about the person.

“Tambuwal and Atiku. These are people who have been consistently inconsistent, betrayers. Birds of the same feather flock together. There’s no way Tambuwal would go without Atiku, knowing full well their antecedents.”

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has stated that he would give appropriate response to the statement made by former governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, in due course.

Naija News recalls that Tambuwal had said on Channels Television’s Politics Today last Friday, that his political choices had always been guided by principles of leadership and not by personal relationships, and that he would support former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over Wike, if he had to make a choice on who should lead the country.

He said, “When it comes to leadership of this country and leadership of the people, tomorrow, not even today, I would rather support Atiku than Nyesom Wike.

“It is a collaboration; it is not something difficult. Once it is about being altruistic and nothing personal. You have never seen me going against President Bola Tinubu personally, you have never heard of me going against Nyesom Wike personally.”

Reacting in a statement on Monday, the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, stated that the FCT Minister won’t let Tambuwal’s latest diatribe against him and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu go un-responded to.

Olayinka said; “I have been inundated with calls, especially from journalists, seeking the Minister’s reaction.

“Apart from what he said against the Minister, Tambuwal also cast aspersions on President Tinubu and such will not go unresponded to.

“Therefore, what I can say is that the Minister will respond accordingly. He will definitely tell Nigerians what a betrayal is and what it means to have integrity.

“Till then, let’s keep our fingers crossed.”

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rubbished claims by Aminu Tambuwal that there is a “national consensus” to stop President Bola Tinubu from returning to power in 2027.

Tambuwal, a former Sokoto State governor and lawmaker representing Sokoto South, had on a television programme last Friday described the push against Tinubu’s re-election as a collective national agenda rather than a northern conspiracy.

Reacting in a statement on Sunday, the Lagos APC spokesman, Seye Oladejo, said what exists is rather a consensus to support good governance, stressing that Nigerians will not hesitate to reaffirm their trust in Tinubu at the polls.

He said, “What is emerging is a national consensus to support good governance, and when the time comes in 2027, Nigerians will not hesitate to reaffirm their trust in a leader who delivers.”

Oladejo described Tambuwal’s statement as “another failed attempt to rewrite the obvious truth,” insisting that Nigerians overwhelmingly rejected the opposition in 2023 and continue to support Tinubu’s administration.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was not imposed, he was elected by Nigerians from every region, faith, and background. And unlike the noise-makers in the opposition, he has hit the ground running,” Oladejo said.

The APC spokesman further advised Tambuwal to focus on clearing his name before anti-graft agencies, noting that “recent revelations have not painted him in a flattering light.”

According to him, opposition talks about consensus ahead of 2027 amount to a “laughable” alliance driven by greed and desperation.

“We watch with close interest as they struggle to build what will be, no doubt, an elusive alliance, sabotaged by their own greed, inflated egos, unbridled desperation for power, and self-righteousness. Nigerians are watching too, popcorn in hand,” he mocked.

Oladejo maintained that Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is already producing results in stabilising the economy, tackling infrastructure deficits, and creating jobs.

“While the opposition plays musical chairs and media politics, we are building roads, creating jobs, fixing power, reforming the economy, and laying the foundation for a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria,” he added.
