2027: ‘Kwankwaso And His Group Remain Expelled’ – NNPP Chairman

“Kwankwaso Is No Longer Active In Kano, He Is Trying To Join APC For Survival - Tinubu's Minister

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has distanced itself from its 2023 presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, declaring that he cannot use the party’s platform to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Naija News reports that the National Chairman of the party, Agbo Major, made this known in a statement on Saturday, stating that Kwankwaso and his ally, Buba Galadima, have been expelled and no longer represent the interests of the NNPP.

Responding to a recent statement by Galadima during a television appearance where he claimed that Kwankwaso would remain in the NNPP and contest the 2027 presidential election, Major described the claim as misleading and false.

Major said, “The NNPP had long expelled Kwankwaso and Galadima, and so, they no longer speak for us nor can they use our platform for any political contest.”

He added that the party’s Memorandum of Understanding with the Kwankwasiyya Movement, led by Kwankwaso, ended shortly after the 2023 elections.

“We cannot even allow Kwankwaso, for whatever reason, to return into the NNPP fold because of the problems and internal wranglings he created,” he stated.

The NNPP chairman accused Kwankwaso of attempting to hijack the party by changing its logo and dragging it into protracted legal battles.

“It was the court’s intervention that led to INEC restoring our original logo after a kangaroo convention held in Abuja,” Major said.

According to him, the party regrets ever handing Kwankwaso the presidential ticket in 2023 and will not repeat the same mistake.

“Kwankwaso must be counting on another free ticket like he got for the 2023 presidential election, but that will not happen again,” he stressed.

Major further accused Kwankwaso of lacking the democratic pedigree to match President Bola Tinubu in a national contest.

He said, “Kwankwaso and his group remain expelled, and we will not readmit them because they betrayed our trust massively. He does not have the pedigree to match President Tinubu in any contest. His ambition is dead on arrival.”

He also criticised Kwankwaso for constantly antagonising the President and advised him to float a new political party to pursue his presidential ambitions.

While acknowledging that the NNPP is already being approached by potential aspirants ahead of 2027, the chairman said the party would follow due process and uphold its constitution in selecting a flagbearer.

He further stated, “Whoever will emerge as the NNPP 2027 presidential candidate will do so, following due process and constitutionality.

“We will no longer hand over our ticket on a platter of gold, and definitely not to someone who betrayed our trust and is no longer in the party.”

Major urged Nigerians to disregard any statements made by Kwankwaso or Galadima in the name of the NNPP.

He said, “The NNPP as a party believes in constructive criticisms of issues and not against personalities or other political parties. We advise Kwankwaso to float his own party and use it for his own agenda.

“NNPP has moved on and can’t be dragged into unnecessary controversies again.”
