The All Progressives Congress (APC) South-South Stakeholders have officially endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027.
Naija News reports that this decision follows a meeting held on Saturday, July 5, 2025, in Benin City, Edo State.
In a statement read by APC Vice Chairman, South-South, Victor Giadom, after the meeting, the party leaders commended President Tinubu for his efforts in repositioning Nigeria.
The statement acknowledged the President’s reforms and policies, particularly the “uncommon love and support” he has shown for the South-South region, citing the emergence of a Senate president from the region as a key highlight.
It also noted the significant developmental projects in the region, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road.
“The South-South commends President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his reforms and policies to reposition Nigeria. We commend Mr. President for his uncommon love and support for the South-South region, which is clearly reflected in the emergence of the Senate President from the region. We also take cognisance of the massive developmental projects in the region, including, but not limited to, the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road,” the statement noted.
The stakeholders also passed a vote of confidence on Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, for his leadership qualities, which have helped unite the South-South region and strengthened support for President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
“We therefore unanimously passed a vote of confidence on our Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, for his leadership qualities and for uniting the South-South and support for the renewed hope agenda of Mr. President,” the statement affirmed.
Naija News reports that the meeting welcomed the governors, stakeholders, and supporters from Delta and Akwa-Ibom states for their patriotic decision to embrace the “Renewed Hope Agenda” and join the APC.
The communique encouraged the remaining two non-APC governors in the region, those of Bayelsa and Rivers states, to also join the progressive party.
“We welcomed the governors, stakeholders, and supporters of Delta and Akwa-Ibom States for their patriotic and courageous decision to embrace the renewed hope agenda and join the APC,” the communique read.
“We therefore call on the remaining two non-APC governors of the region, namely the governor of Bayelsa and Rivers States, and their supporters to also join the progressive family.”
Support for South-South Governors
The party stakeholders also endorsed APC governors in the South-South, including those from Edo, Cross River, Delta, and Akwa Ibom States, for their outstanding performance in governance.
They maintained that the governors should be re-elected in 2027.
“We pass a vote of confidence on the governors of Edo, Cross Rivers, Delta, and Akwa-Ibom States for their performance in good governance and should be re-elected in their respective States,” the statement communicated.
The communique further commended the loyalty of APC members in the South-South, including elected senators, House of Representatives members, federal ministers, heads of MDAs, and political appointees. The loyalty to the party and support for President Tinubu’s agenda were highly praised.
“We commend the party in the South-South, elected senators, members of the House of Representatives, ministers of the Federal Government of Nigeria from the South-South, heads of MDAs, and political appointees for their loyalty to the party authority and support for the renewed hope agenda,” it read.
Naija News reports that the communique concluded with a unanimous decision to adopt President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election from the South-South zone.
