Udinese goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye has emphasized the importance of the upcoming matches for the Super Eagles in their bid to secure a spot at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ahead of their home game against the Cheetahs of Benin Republic in Uyo on Saturday, Maduka Okoye stressed the significance of being mentally prepared and performing at their highest level.

The former Sparta Rotterdam goalkeeper expressed confidence in the team’s preparation and their ability to secure a win in these crucial qualifiers.

“Very important games upcoming”, Maduka Okoye told NFF TV. “For sure, they play a mental role, but we are getting prepared for this now, and for sure, we will get the win because these are very important qualifiers, and we have to be at our best and perform at our highest level.”

Furthermore, Maduka Okoye expressed his excitement over the return of captain William Troost-Ekong to the Super Eagles, highlighting the importance of having key players like the veteran defender in the squad.

“For sure, there are important players, and we need them also in the team like Troost-Ekong; it’s good to have him back, and for sure, there will be a difference,” he said.

Note that the 25-year-old Nigerian goalkeeper, who has made 16 appearances for the Super Eagles, is expected to compete with Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali for the first-choice spot in the Super Eagles.

Due to his current form with Udinese and his positive history with the team’s interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen, Okoye could be used ahead of Stanley Nwabali against Benin Republic on September 7.
