Senate President Ahmad Lawan has allegedly secretly picked the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial form after picking the Presidential nomination and Express of Interest form.
Lawan was number four on the list of aspirants that have picked the party’s Senatorial form from Yobe State.
It is understood that Lawan picked up the Senatorial form secretly at the party National Secretariat at the International Conference Center (ICC) in Abuja last week.
The Yobe lawmaker and presidential hopeful is set to appear before the Senate Screening Panel of the party next week for screening and verification, The Eagle Online reports.
There are speculations that Lawan was drafted into the presidential race to pave way for a Northerner to retain the Presidency in 2023.
According to reports, Lawan joined the presidential contest in case former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is also from the North East, emerges as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer in the 2023 presidrntial election.
Meanwhile, the Chief Whip of the Senate and former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has claimed that nine presidential aspirants from the APC are set to step down for the Senate President.
Speaking to newsmen on Saturday, the former presidential hopeful said a presidential aspirant from the PDP is set to also join the APC.
Kalu, who dropped his presidential ambition and backed that of Lawan, stated that the Senate President’s candidature will ‘rock like a hurricane.’
