The immediate former Governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, has said he was not aware of being picked as a running mate to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Reports had emerged earlier with claims that Atiku is considering picking the former Speaker of the House of Representatives as his running mate for the 2023 presidential election.
Atiku had though refuted the viral claims in a statement earlier, noting that he is yet to pick his presidential running mate. In a chat with Daily Trust on Thursday, Atiku’s Spokesman, Paul Ibe, described as fake news the reports that his principal had chosen Ihedioha or any other person as his running mate.
He noted that the PDP presidential candidate would announce his running mate when the time is right. He, however, asked supporters and well-wishers of the PDP Presidential candidate to wait for the official announcement of the running mate.
He said, “When we decide to speak on the issue of running mate, it will not be a subject of speculation, we will roll it out. It is not going to be something that will be speculated on social media, online platforms or Whatsapp groups.
“So from my own stable, I cannot confirm that to be true. These are the times for all manner of speculations. People should endeavour to wait for the official announcement. But this speculation is unknown to me.”
Subsequently, Ihedioha in his own reaction to the development, said he was unaware of such political moves.
“Honestly, I am not aware of any action in that direction,” he said in a terse response to Vanguard on Thursday.
