2023: Just Like Masari, Zulum Calls For Power Shift To South

The Governor of Borno State, Babagan Zulum, said Southern Nigeria should produce the successor of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking on Thursday in Abuja, at a book launch by former Director-General of NIMASA, Dakuku Peterside, the governor said a power shift to Southern Nigeria is the best way to solve the growing agitations in the country.

He urged the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to take his advice and zone the 2023 presidential ticket to the southern part of the country for balance, equity, and fairness.

Zulum also advised the APC to keep to previous agreements made to shift power to the southern part of the country in the next administration.

The governor, however, blamed corrupt government officials for the poor handling of the Boko Haram insurgency in the early years of the insurgency

He added that the negligence of poor countries surrounding Nigeria by the government has led to the banditry in the country.

Zulum urged the Nigerian government to emulate some European countries and empower their poorer neighbours, which he said would curb the security situation in the country.

According to the governor, military interventions and even national restructuring cannot stop the crisis, adding that strategic leadership and social re-orientation are the two ways to end the insecurity in the country.
