The 2023-2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) will finally commence on September 30, after two postponements.
Recall that the new season was initially planned to commence on August 26. But it was postponed to September 9. Then, the plan was that the game between 3SC and Plateau United in Ibadan would be used to kick off the new season.
However, the kick-off of the league was postponed again due to different factors which included the installation of the AI cameras for the streaming of the games and training people on how to use it.
The halt in the commencement of the 2023-2024 NPFL season lasted for almost three weeks before the league body finally picked September 30 as the new date for the kick-off of the new season.
Naija News gathered that the new kick-off date will follow the initial plans of having the games streamed online via the newly launched NPFL Live, but not certain yet whether the league body will maintain the fixtures announced in August.
In a circular issued to all the clubs and signed by the league’s chief operational officer, Davidson Owumi, the NPFL board announced that the league would commence to secure the agreements that led to its postponement.
The circular revealed that the prize money has increased from N100 million to N150 million and a take-off fund of N10 million will be given to each of the league’s 20 clubs.
The circular reads in parts, “The 20 clubs will, as was done last season, receive a take-off grant of N10m each to smoothen your operations as the season starts. We are, therefore, expecting all the clubs to as a matter of urgency forward their respective account details to the NPFL secretariat for the transfer of the said amount as the season is set to commence on Saturday, September 30.”
