The remaining 17 students of Greenfield University in Kaduna State, who were abducted more than 30 days ago by bandits remain in captivity.
It may be recalled that the students were abducted at about 8:15 pm on April 20 last year in Kakumi village on the Kaduna-Abuja road.
Twenty-two students were reportedly abducted and another university employee was killed.
The gunmen demanded N800 million as ransom for the students, and a day after their abduction, five bodies were found near the university.
In an interview with VOA’s Hausa Service, the leader of the militants, Sani Idris Jalingo, nicknamed ‘Beleri’, threatened to kill the remaining students if the government or parents did not pay. 100 million and 10 Honda cars and motorcycles as ransom.
The deadline for paying the students’ ransom has been met, and no details of their condition have been heard so far.
However, Kaduna Police Spokesperson, ASP Mohammed Jalige, told Daily Trust that the force was doing its best to rescue the students.
According to him, “the state police force has not forgotten the students because the commissioner of police has ordered more action to rescue them.”
